 Progress – May 08, 2017

Total balance remaining is $8,996   😀

Below is a thermometer I created to keep track of how much I have paid since November 2014

Betsy DeVos plans to take away the Student Loan Forgiveness Program.  This will affect more than 500 million individuals who expected to get their loans discharged in October 2017.  Many people who work in the nonprofit sector and federal advised me to pay as little as possible and have my school loans forgiven 10 years afterward.  I don’t like the idea of waiting a decade just to have my loans forgiven, especially the taxpayers paying off the debt.  I rather pay off my loans as quick as possible.

Currently, I’m enrolled in a 10-year plan to finish paying off the loans.  It appears that I will be debt free in less than 3 years.  The prep meals, frugal grocery shopping, extreme couponing, and sacrifices are paying off.

Three days ago, I submitted a payment of $2,000 dollars.  This helped me remove a loan I’ve been trying to pay off since February.  Took me longer because I did not expect to have my #16 tooth extraction and pay $400.  Kudos to everyone who pays for this type of surgery.  Now I’m down to 2 loans.  I’m still on track to be debt free by July 28, 2017.  Woohoo!

Last week I turned 30, got a promotion, traveled in Maryland, Virginia, and Washinton D.C. for the NASA HR Conference Training, and visited the Warehouse Restaurant at Marina Del Rey, CA.  Four places in one week. Awesome!  Below are pictures of my trip.
