Sometimes, I feel extremely grateful to hear any sound with the help of hearing aids.  However, there are days that I dislike wearing them.  I’ve been wearing hearing aids for a long time and realize that I can’t take care of them without visiting my local audiologist or a hearing aid vendor to adjust both volume and sound.  Currently, I wear Audéo S Smart “BTE” hearing aids also known as “behind the ears.”  Whenever I walk inside an office, the noise from the side and back is reduced to my hearing comfort level.  The Audéo S Smart switches into a quiet and subtle soft sound, which any person who wears hearing aids will feel delightful.  Sometimes I hear unfamiliar sounds and believe that I am not alone in this journey.

When my right or left hearing aid refuses to reduce a background noise; I feel disappointed, frustrated, and unhappy.  I don’t feel like talking to anyone because I’m struggling to hear and sometimes I encounter rude people who make me feel terrible.  It doesn’t matter whether I am walking, sitting, reading, exercising, cooking, watching television, hearing music, and animals that make noise inside and outside environments.  This problem will continue for a while unless I make an appointment with Carmen, a licensed hearing instrument specialist.  The longest I waited to make an appointment was three months.  I honestly have no idea why I was naive and regret waiting too long!

Last week, I visited Carmen and explained my reason for the appointment – believe me, I struggle to explain what I was hearing.  I was surprised that it took Carmen less than 15 minutes to adjust the sound and volume of my Audéo S Smart hearing aids.  Carmen told me to wear them and see if she adjusted them correctly.  I wore them and immediately smiled because to my surprise, there was no background noise.

To test them, I went camping with my mom and stepdad at Lake Isabella and Kern River Valley this weekend for Labor Day.  I felt happy and a desire to explore the sounds of the river, the water hitting rocks, effects of heavy winds, and nature.  Mother tried talking to me but I was too distracted to communicate with her because I wanted to explore where noise came from like wolves howling at night.  It’s a beautiful place to visit!  Extremely hot during the day, walked in the cold river, and slept cold at night.

      1. Yes, I got them repaired. I wasn’t told when I got them to get certain wires replaced every year because they work loose in the routine insertion and removal of the hearing aids every day.
