My current hearing aids do not work properly.  I am guessing they are about 5 or 6 years old.  Sorry guys, I’m getting old and my memory isn’t as young as it used to be. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.  It’s a love and hate relationship.  However, when they do work I cannot adjust the volume without the Phonak ComPilot amplifier. It wouldn’t be wise for me to repair them since they’re not even worth it and the warranty expired.  I might as well purchase a new set of hearing aid devices.  To my surprise, I was tidying out some…

Wow, it’s been a while since I took a road trip alone.  This time, I visited the Santa Barbara beach. I live in the desert, the middle of nowhere.  Believe me, it’s dry and hot where I live.  Right now, the temperature is about 97 degrees hot and it will get higher over the next few days.  I’m not complaining and I’m very happy where I am today, especially where I get to live on my own.  Except the fact that I’m currently renting the second bedroom. At least it’s temporary until the first week of August.  I was very…

I read an article, Gene therapy allows deaf mice to hear: study published by Marlowe Hood on February 6, 2017.  At first, I thought this sounds like a great idea only for those who wish to have their hearing restored.  Personally, I wish I could hear 100% without the need to wear hearing devices.  They’re amazing to wear, but most days I wish I wouldn’t wear them all day.  I was diagnosed with a bilateral hearing loss at age 9.  Nobody knows how it happened.  I wear hearing aids and without them, I wouldn’t be able to improve my communication and hearing skills. …

Dear little sister, You know me by name, but not my story. You’ve heard what I’ve been through but you haven’t lived in my shoes. Not only do I share your blood; I am just like you. Both of us lost a father at a very young age and raised by mothers who fought like warriors to protect us from families who never cared about us. A man whom I wished I got to know better not just his last years. I lost contact with you since you turned three years old. That was 15 years ago and now I have…

My boss helped me learn a lot about the deaf culture, the way they communicate and express themselves. Did you know that a deaf person cannot whistle because it’s hard for him or her to distinguish sounds.  Except Robert, he is extraordinary and whistles everyday.  Later, I learned this is his way of relaxing and he was determined to learn how to whistle when he was diagnosed as deaf.  Robert’s family enrolled him to a public school and his siblings taught him how to pronounce words.  Eventually, he worked twice as hard to speak and trained his ears to distinguish sounds.  As a…

One of the greatest boss I ever met is deaf.  His name is Robert.  We met in April 2014, at the Disability Federal Employment Fair in California State University, Northridge.  It was my first time attending a disability job fair not knowing what would happen next.  My life changed when I met Robert. Our first conversation was very brief.  I introduced myself and noticed he did not speak or respond.  An interpreter used sign language to communicate with Robert.  Robert communicated with the interpreter by signing as the interpreter translated for me.  He asked for a federal resume. Not knowing how to write a federal resume, I…

This is my second visit to the San Diego Zoo, twenty-two years after my first.  My family wanted to take a trip to the zoo on the 4th of July, including my boyfriend. Mother and brother made fun of me because all I wanted to do was watch the pandas. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to see the face of a panda because it was too tired or lazy to move. All I saw was its dirty butt. See picture below. Oh well, at least I saw the leopards, lions, turtles, chimpanzee, and elephants. Did you know the elephants have their own “spa.”…

When you meet me in person, the first thing you’ll notice is my beautiful smile. Behind my smile I hide deep scars and a lot of pain. I’ve learned how to repress my emotions and feelings by smiling and hiding pain since my childhood years. In addition, I’ve also learned that pain is temporary depending how small or big my wounds and scars are. Whenever I feel PAIN, I feel hurt. You will always see me smiling and laughing but you will never see me crying no matter what type of pain I’m experiencing. The only way you will ever…

This post is meant for the person I lost.  He is no longer part of my life for he is gone forever.  I will always remember the way you made me smile, laugh, and feel protected when I was little. We connected, separated, and reunited before you left.  I am heartbroken but time will heal my wounded heart.  Do not worry about me, I will meet you up there when my time comes. I promise to be humble, patience, love myself more, and forgive everyone.  I love you so much, always will, and I miss you.  I know you died…

To be happy, you need to let go of your fears. It’s okay to be yourself.  Don’t ever let a person make fun of you because you’re shy, innocent, serious, unhappy, unsatisfied, disappointed, confused, and overwhelmed about your life.  We all go through this phase and forget who we are because we’re letting bad people emotionally hurt us.  Be yourself no matter what.  Have confidence.  Having confidence is the key to heal, forgive, and love yourself. I struggled and felt overwhelmed from lip reading or pretending to hear when I couldn’t listen.  I no longer let my frustrations get the best of me….
